On Friday 14th October, we were fortunate to welcome Gianna Pollero, the author of the series Monster Doughnuts, into Madginford Primary School. The children were invited to dress up as monsters on the day and we had some amazing costumes!

Year 3, 4 and 5 had workshops with Gianna where they were able to ask questions about the writing process and how the illustrator can work with the author to create a final product. A fantastic question from Year 5 was “Do you ever write a few paragraphs then stop?” To which Gianna explained that all great authors do this, it’s part of the writing process!

All children were welcome to purchase the books and then meet her in person!

During the day, we had a buddy reading experience where the children paired up across the school and the enjoyment had by the children was incredible. The children showed a real passion for reading to each other and squeals of laughter could be heard wherever we went!

And finally, as it was a Monster Doughnut Day all the children had the opportunity to eat a doughnut! A most welcome treat for us all!
