When Is This Used?

At Madginford Primary School, a This Is Me profile is used to help us understand each child as an individual. It ensures that children’s strengths, interests, preferences and support needs are recognised and valued.

A This Is Me profile may be created when a child needs additional support, when there are changes in a child’s circumstances, or when it would help staff better understand how to support a child’s learning, wellbeing and inclusion.

When might a This Is Me profile be used?

A profile may be helpful:

When a child joins our school

To help staff quickly understand:

• what the child enjoys;
• how they communicate;
• what helps them feel safe and confident;
• their strengths and interests.

When a child begins to receive SEND support

To ensure support starts with the child’s individual needs, strengths and aspirations rather than focusing only on difficulties.

During SEND support planning and reviews

To support discussions between:

• the child;
• parents and carers;
• teachers;
• SEND staff;
• external professionals.

It helps everyone understand what is working well and what adjustments may help.

During times of change

For example:

• moving classes or key stages;
• starting a new school;
• preparing for transitions;
• changes in support or provision.

When a child finds aspects of school challenging

A profile can help identify:

• triggers or barriers;
• successful strategies;
• communication preferences;
• ways to support confidence and independence.

Who contributes to a This Is Me profile?

A child’s voice is central. Profiles are developed with contributions from:

• the child, where appropriate;
• parents and carers;
• school staff;
• other professionals involved in supporting the child.

The information is reviewed regularly so that it continues to reflect the child’s current strengths, needs and goals.

Why do we use This Is Me?

A diagnosis does not define a child. A This Is Me profile helps us see the whole child — their personality, talents, ambitions and the support that enables them to succeed.
