Speaking and Listening
The new curriculum reflects the importance of spoken language across the whole curriculum. It underpins the development for both reading and writing.
There is a new emphasis on speaking audibly using correct pronunciation. We will be including a variety of opportunities during literacy lessons to develop these skills. This will be presented through opportunities for speaking, listening, group discussion and drama activities.
We aspire for all children to be confident speakers in a variety of situations and for a range of audiences. Pupils will be able to listen with concentration and interest and to ask and answer questions which shows and extends their knowledge and understanding. We want to enable children to listen and respond appropriately to adults and peers and to use a range of strategies to extend their vocabulary. This will provide pupils with the essential skills to proceed to Key Stage 2, further education and beyond.
